Judo Athletes – Oficina da Villa
Original name: Atletas do Judô – Oficina da Vila
Getting youth off the streets by offering them the opportunity to engage in sports activities. This is the goal of the Judo Athletes – Oficina da Villa project, which offers free judo classes for children and teens ages 6 to 18.
One-and-a-half-hour classes are held three times a week. All students enrolled in the project receive a full donated uniform kit, including a kimono and belt for practice, as well as a project T-shirt. Participants also receive a snack kit at the end of every class.
Martial arts develop both the student’s body and mind, providing agility and skill while stimulating precise and fast thinking. The practitioner’s body begins to obey with total synchronicity and clarity, making the individual calm, secure, and confident, while working on body awareness—a highly positive factor in the development of children and teens.
Taking place in the city of Campinas, in the interior of São Paulo, the project currently benefits 150 children and teenagers.
