Rhythmic Gymnastics - Shaping Citizens

Original name: Ginástica Rítmica – Formando Cidadão

Promoting access to sports is the goal of the Rhythmic Gymnastics – Shaping Citizens project, which offers free classes for children and teens ages 6 to 17 at various centers in the cities of Amparo, Campinas, Mogi Mirim, and Rio Claro, in the state of São Paulo. The classes last one hour and take place three times a week. All students receive full uniforms for practice: a leotard, shorts, and a tracksuit. The project aims to encourage the practice of this sport in a healthy and fun way, using sports as a tool for social inclusion and transformation, while promoting integration and enriching the athletic culture of children and teens. Furthermore, teachers are also prepared to identify future talents and guide participants so they can reach high-performance levels.

For me, gymnastics is a way to express feelings without words. It’s a sanctuary. It helped me through one of my toughest moments when I was diagnosed with anxiety. It’s been an incredible experience... I’ve been able to grow and really sharpen my technique.

My daughter has developed so much. Her self-esteem and motor skills have improved. She used to be a bit sluggish, but with rhythmic gymnastics, she’s found a better rhythm. She’s spending less time on electronics and now actually has the energy to go for walks or bike rides with us. She’s more active and much less sedentary. She’s also come out of her shell; she used to be very shy and withdrawn. She even improved in school—her grades have been better since she joined the project.

It's an opportunity to practice sports and meet new people, it's been very good for my daughter. Even when she's not here, she stays home playing with the hoop (which is one of the instruments in rhythmic gymnastics), if you let her, she'll spend the whole day with it. Because of that, she ended up stopping using the tablet.
